Automakers especially are requiring their Tier I and II suppliers to be certified to ISO 9001: 2000. ISO 9001: 2000 replaces the 1994 Standards (ISO 9001, 9002 and 9003). All companies registered to the 1994 Standards were required to upgrade to the 2000 Standard by December 15, 2003. The 2000 Standard sets out some significant new requirements, including an emphasis on customer satisfaction, process definition and the use of data to determine the effectiveness of processes.
MQI has always taught clients to address quality as a system of defined processes to produce products customers want, rather than a short term effort to produce a large book that sits on the shelf until the auditor arrives. We believe the 2000 standard is a good direction for companies who are interested in improving revenues and increasing the bottom line.
